Dr. Makhdum Ahmed received Australian Leadership Award Scholarship
Dr. Makhdum Ahmed received Australian Leadership Award Scholarship 2009 to study Masters of Public Health. He was strongly recommended by Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation for this scholarship. Dr. Ahmed actively volunteered in the foundation since 2007. He translated a book on Thalassemia in Bengali which is under the process of publishing. The aim of the book is to give general people an easy understanding on Thalassemia. The estimated value of the scholarship is AUS$54190 plus GST of maximum AUS$5419 covering tuition, living expenses and travel allowance. He will be studying Masters of Public Health at University of Wollongong, Australia from January 2009 to December 2009. He is expected to return to Bangladesh after completion of the course and dedicate his knowledge in Public Health for the cause of Thalassemia. Dr. Makhdum’s knowledge and experience is surely going to be valuable for BTF & his country. He is a very competitive and hard-working person despite of his disability by polio since childhood. He is going to be an inspiration for our Thalassemia patient’s community. About Australian Leadership Award The Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) program aims to develop leadership, build partnerships and linkages within the Asia-Pacific, and address priority regional issues. The ALA program is comprised of Scholarships and Fellowships. Awardees are selected from the public, private and community sectors within countries where Australia has a significant aid program. ALA Scholarships are offered to high achievers from the Asia-Pacific region to undertake postgraduate study (Masters or Doctorate) at an Australian university. Study programs must relate to AusAID’s priority areas of disability, economic growth, education, environment, food security, gender, governance, health, human rights, infrastructure, regional stability, rural development and water & sanitation.
