 The only oral iron chelator available at this time Deferiprone / L1 (Kelfer) is available form the Foundation at a affordable rate. This drug will be provided to the registerd thalassemia patients on prescripton of a hematologist and pediatrician.
Kelfer is manufactured by Cipla Ltd., India. It is available in 250mg and 500mg capsule form. Each pack contains 50 capsules of either strength.
The drug was previously available only at one place with a much higher price. We are providing one 500mg box at 700 taka (10.44 us$) which is 22 % less. We are planning to appeal to government for tax exemptioin which will make it possible to reduce the price by another 20%.
